Long Eaton Girls Are Fighting Fit!
Members of Long Eaton Ladies Circle decided on a little stress relief in the form of a self defence class recently. The idea was to combine some fitness work with learning a few defence moves, essential for all women!
Having met at a nearby hostelry for a team talk and to take on fluids we were all in good spirits when we arrived at 4th Dimension Martial Arts Centre in Long Eaton. If only we knew what we had let ourselves in for!
It started gently enough with a warm up - Sara missed this as she was on the phone. We inducted out latest new member and posed for the obligatory photo call - Sara missed this as she was on the phone. Then it was time to don some gloves and learn how to beat up the punchbag - Sara missed most of this as she was on the phone! Combination punches and kicks - what a great way to get rid of the day's frustrations. Wayne, our instructor, was quite strict too! There was no slacking allowed!!
Next came partner work and after a demonstration, where Wayne showed us that Angela CAN actually be controlled, it was time to try it out for ourselves. Angela was a touch over enthusiastic; I think she forgot it was only pretend!!
Dawn and Sara (now off the phone) decided that tickling was a much more effective form of defence. By the end we were all confident that if we were attacked in slow motion we would be absolutely sure of how to defend ourselves.
But we weren't finished! Wayne decided we should do some fitness work with the bags. And to make sure we did as we were told he even had a big stick!!! I think he gave up on us in the end - we weren't very good at doing as we were told!
We rounded off the evenign as we had begun - in the pub for a well deserved drink! Reports the next day were of no ill effects from our exertions - several very smug girls claiming no aches or pains....
...the following day was a different matter!
If you would like to join us for a fun packed evening - not necessarily as energetic as that one - then please contact us for more details of our next "grand adventure".
