Ladies Circle Step Forward to Help Local Stroke Support Group
Lichfield Ladies Circle have had a busy year raising money for local charities and recently donated £500 to the Whittington based Step Forward Stroke Support Group. Step Forward meets fortnightly in Whittington Village Hall and offers a vital support network for local stroke sufferers and their partners. Members enjoy a wide range of activities to help them to improve and maintain their well-being, including; computer skills, swimming, jewellery making, ukulele workshops, outings, and regular visits from health care professionals. Having been founded only two years ago by John and Wendy Gilbert, the group has recently been recognised as the best Stroke Support Group in the UK.
Lichfield Ladies Circle made the donation following the success of their 60thBirthday luncheon in the summer. They heard about Step Forward only recently, following the death of one of its founder members. Lichfield Ladies Circle Chair Susan Davies said: “So many people in our community are affected by a stroke. Step Forward is a wonderful group of people, who have a great deal of fun. Ladies Circle is delighted to make this donation to help the group benefit its members. A great team of people provide a wealth of opportunities, as well as creating a lively and happy atmosphere.”
John Gilbert, who has suffered from a stroke himself, said: “We are overwhelmed by this generous donation. It will make a big difference to us, and allow us to continue supporting our members’ needs.”
