Ladies Circle & Friends 'Pedal for Pounds' for Whizz-Kidz Charity

Members of top national women’s organisation 'Ladies Circle' are taking part in a challenging cycle ride from Southport to Skegness over the Easter weekend. Ladies Circle’s ‘Pedal for Pounds’ bid is in aid of the mobility charity Whizz-Kidz giving disabled children and young people the freedom and independence to live their lives to the full by providing customised mobility equipment.

Whizz-Kidz is Ladies Circle National President, Ruth Curry’s nominated charity, her aim at the beginning of the year was to raise enough cash to provide at least one wheelchair for Whizz-Kidz and to create lots more awareness about the volunteering opportunities associated with the group. All across the country local Circles have been busy fundraising  – with monies raised being used to benefit children and young adults in their local area.

For those taking part in this epic coast to coast ride of 220 miles it has meant a punishing training schedule over the last few months. Ruth said “Ladies Circle is all about having fun and giving something back to the community. What better way to combine these two elements than to rise to this challenge. This event has enabled everyone to get involved, by either cycling part or all of the distance or by helping everything to run smoothly across the four days.”

“I have been overwhelmed by the response to support Whizz-Kidz. And it’s not just money that Whizz-Kidz needs help with. They also need volunteers, they’re very reliant on people being willing to offer their time as a volunteer to support their work with disabled children across the UK. Whether you can give an hour here or there or a longer commitment your contribution will be valued and you can make a difference as a volunteer.”

A special Just Giving page has been set up to aid the receipt of donations at www.justgiving.com/LadiesCircle and well-wishers can also donate by text, simply message NALC99 and the amount you wish to give to 70070. We've also set up a Storify page at https://storify.com/LadiesCircleGB/ladies-circle-pedal-for-pounds so everyone can catch up with participants' adventures!

The Whizz-Kidz Volunteer Network helps to support and deliver the services to disabled children and young people, and helps to raise awareness of mobility issues, as well as funds, across the UK. Further information about the network can be found on their website at: www.whizz-kidz.org.uk or please contact Jessica Hiscocks, email: j.hiscocks@whizz-kidz.org.uk.
