Cheque Handover to this Year's Charity!

Well what a year we have had! Yesterday our chairwoman of 2013 - 14, Victoria Myers, made her final speech and celebrated an amazing year of fundraising by handing a cheque to Stuart Lees from Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research for an amazing £3943.73! Add to that the extra £200 that was donated directly throught the Just Giving page and our total comes to over £4000. We were so very proud to hand this huge amount of money over to a charity that is close to many of our hearts.

Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is a  UK blood cancer charity. Every year they stop more people dying of blood cancer and their researchers are even working to stop people developing blood cancer in the first place. They improve the lives of patients with blood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma because they believe everyone should be able to live their life to the full. Stuart Lees who works for the South West region of the charity talked to us about how they spend the money that is raised each year and we were very pleased to hear how our £4000 may be spent.

We celebrated this wonderful event at Nyland Manor near Cheddar Gorge with a delicious traditional afternoon tea served in their beautiful dining room. Freshly made sandwiches, cake, meringues, scones and strawberries were served alongside tea poured from vintage teapots. Surrounded by fresh flowers and wonderful Somerset views we could not have been happier!

There was more cause for celebration and huge smiles when Alex Chard, outgoing honorary president, handed over the chain to Julia Ball who has become this years honorary president. The honorary president will help and support our current chairwoman Janice Fisher with her year. This year we will be fundraising for two important charities. The British Tinnitus Association ( http://www.tinnitus.org.uk/) and hearing dogs for deaf people ( http://www.hearingdogs.org.uk/).

Let's hope next year is as successful as this year!
